Where It Started
XOL came to founder Valentino Romero through a series of vivid dreams and visions that he understood as instructions for his life's work. At its center is the belief that life begins with community, and that knowledge should be approached with humility.
That understanding shapes every pair of shoes. Deer hide, traditional leatherwork, and woven Mayan blouses are treated with care, carrying the stories and craftsmanship of the people who made them.

Made With Purpose, Not Mass Appeal
To Valentino, the shoes are offerings, created with purpose rather than for mass appeal. That principle has led XOL to turn away opportunities that would compromise the traditions and relationships behind the work.

Creating Space
Together, Christina and Valentino continue creating space for Indigenous knowledge and artistry. XOL Original leaves us with a blueprint for considering what gives an object its value, who carried its knowledge forward, and how something meaningful should be received and cared for.
